I want to acknowledge my absence from the blog for the last couple of weeks and offer an explanation. We took a 9-day vacation and spent the following weekend with friends at their lake house, but the real reason is that we have a new addition to our family.
I realize that this is a food blog, but having a baby to attend to is a significant enough life event that it warrants space on Southern Boy Dishes. Milo, the 8-week-old Labradoodle came home a week ago to join his brother, Greeley, his sister, Olive, Jim and me. Needless to say, he’s rocked our world, but in the best possible way.
I do have to brag a little. Milo spent his first night at home in the crate without making a sound. We prepared ourselves for a few sleepless nights, fully expecting hours of puppy wailing, but he’s been a real trooper and has adjusted to the crate beautifully. He’s already learned “sit” and “place” and obediently goes outside to “potty”. He’s a smart boy!
The first few days, Greeley and Olive completely ignored him. Olive has since warmed up to him, showing some maternal instincts. She’s even played a few games of tug-of-war with him. Our floors are littered with puppy toys and she’s experiencing her second puppyhood at 10-years-old, by usurping some of them.
Greeley on the other hand, continues to ignore little Milo. We’re hoping he’ll warm up to him soon.
I promise to be back in the next few days with some new recipes. I’ll somehow manage my balancing act with work, family, new baby, and blogging!

I’ve been MIA for almost two months, so I do understand your shift in priorities. Family always comes first, and a dog is family. What a cutie! I hope to hear from you about how you enjoyed your trip to California, and how you like the remodeled hotel in Carmel– though it sounds like you had little time to see. Anyway, hope your vacation was fabulous and the weather cooperated with you.
Thanks, Debby! I’ll send you an email with details on my trip.
Congratulations on the new addition to the family!!! Go Bill , go dogs, and Jim too! They are all beautiful!!!
Could you have found a cuter dog – don’t think so!! How old is she? She looks calm and happy – great combination! How tall will she get? Will you groom her…?
Sorry, I like the details!! What a sweetie pie! thanks for the photos = I had missed your posts but you ARE BACK!!
Happy Monday!!

Hi Bert! He’s a real sweetheart. He is 10 weeks old and he’ll probably get to about 60 pounds. He has huge feet! He’ll have lots of hair so we’ll have to get him groomed.
Family is important. Food can wait. ๐
So true, Barbara!
LOVE LOVE LOVE that posts! How absolutely adorable! Can’t wait to meet Milo!
He can’t wait to meet Uncles Kirk and Todd!!
Special hugs to Greeley. Milo will be showered with adoration wherever he goes. Such a cutie!
Exquisite pics, btw. xoxo
Greeley’s getting lot of attention. He’s just a jealous boy!! ๐
Your new baby is darling ! So are your other babies ! I understand the new baby is important to attend to first. I have two kitty babies and they always come first no matter what !
Good luck on the new addition, have a great Monday !
Thank you, Catherine! I appreciate your comment!
Hi, I am a new reader. I live in Carmel and am wondering which remodeled hotel you were staying in. Milo is absolutely the most adorable dog I’ve ever seen. I found your blog when I was looking online for a pork recipe. I grew up in NC but live in Carmel. Always missing good Southern cooking. Best wishes, Joyce Bock
